Project Lunch works to ensure that every student enrolled in public school is provided a healthy nutritious lunch regardless of his or her economic status. Our goal is to supplement funds where student accounts are delinquent, so hot meals are provided to all students without discrimination.
Lunch break at school should be a time for students to recharge and refuel to attack the learning process full force each afternoon. Studies have shown that the ability to learn significantly decreases, and behavioral problems increase when a child is hungry. While no child is denied a lunch at school, the “alternative” lunch provided is often not sufficient to provide the nutrients and energy a growing child needs to be successful. Through Project Lunch, we want to ensure that all students have access to full, nutritional lunches.
Public school systems offer free and reduced-cost breakfast and lunch programs through which families in need may obtain financial assistance. Unfortunately, some families still cannot afford a hot lunch every day. This could be because the families are unaware of the available programs, are unable to or choose not to complete the paperwork, or may not qualify for the free or reduced-cost programs but still cannot afford the cost.
School is hard enough. Children do not need to be hungry. In some cases, this may be the only meal they have in a day. Additionally, the embarrassment of getting to the front of the lunch line and having your hot meal taken away and replaced with a cold cheese sandwich is something no child should have to endure.
The goal of Project Lunch is to provide adequate funding to schools in Paulding County, Georgia to cover the “lunch debt” for students and families that aren't receiving hot lunches, and ensure every child is offered a hot meal. PERIOD!
